Each of our playgrounds incorporate some element of green infrastructure – from trees to a large turf fields designed to capture stormwater. These elements are excellent learning tools for understanding how GI works in NYC which is why we always include the above sign detailing how the various element work. We also have a school-wide assembly and offer in-class programs so that the students can continue to engage with the engineering and city planning concepts at work in their yards.
A group of curious students from PS 19 in the East Village observe Maddy’s demonstration on the permeable pavement in their playground. We when kids can see how their own yards fit into larger NYC initiatives to capture stormwater and mitigate the effects of climate change.
