Water Resources Art & Poetry Contest

One of our main partners in building Green Infrastructure playgrounds is the Department of Environmental Protection (or DEP). They have many educational resources, but one fun way they engage students around the topic of water is their Annual Water Resources and Poetry Contest.

“Second through 12th grade students from New York City and watershed schools are invited to submit artwork (including paintings, photos, digital media) and poetry that creatively express knowledge, appreciation and understanding of NY’s shared water resources.”

Students at schools with Green Infrastructure playgrounds might even use their own playgrounds and gardens as inspiration. Take the students outside with art supplies and journals and have them reflect of the role of water in their world and in their playground. Remember, even snow is stormwater! Let them be inspired by the plants, weather, and the green infrastructure of their playgrounds.
