Garden Kaleidoscopes

We love all tools that encourage wonder and close observation of the outdoors.

That’s why I’m very excited to be able to gift these Kikkerland Kaleidoscopes to all attendees of these year’s Stewardship Workshop.

This little garden tool allows students to collect objects from the garden like petals or leaves, and turn then into a mosaic of color. Use them to inspire drawings, seasonal color studies, and flower anatomy explorations. See if students can guess what’s inside without looking.

We can’t wait to see the questions they spark in your students. Here are a few question prompts:

  • How do you think the kaleidoscope works?
  • What do you think happens when you look through it in shadow versus the sun?
  • How does an object’s transparency affect the image?
  • What do you notice about how the colors change through the season?
  • What parts do you see?

Let us know how it goes!
