On May 22, the New York City Playgrounds team celebrated the opening of PS 140/Edward K. Ellington School in Jamaica, Queens. Located within a 10-minute walk of over 11,000 New Yorkers, the new community playground in Queens was transformed from an asphalt lot into a vibrant green community playground following The Trust for Public Land’s participatory design process.
The new schoolyard includes a green roof gazebo, a tennis court, student-drawn art, and many other public amenities for the students and neighborhood to enjoy.
